Another reason behind kidney diseases in a dog is shock because of some kind of trauma. If your dog consumed some kind of toxic chemical, it will be highly likely to suffer from a kidney disorder. Another very common reason behind kidney related illnesses in dogs is heart failure or the offshoot of some infectious disease. There are numerous reasons behind kidney related disorders and you need to be very cautious and take very good care of your dog in order to ensure that it does not get a kidney disorder in its old age.

There are so many reasons behind kidney related disorders that you must go to a vet as soon as you sense that something is wrong with your dog’s health. Also, doing a bit more research on the causes of kidney problems will help you take the necessary precautions and prevent kidney disorders. However, if your dog does get a kidney disorder, it is a great help for the vet to know how exactly your got hold of the illness. This assists in treatment.

One of the biggest problems with chronic diseases is that they have been in the dog’s body for years and hence, they have already done a considerable damage. This is why treatment has to be very good and very effective in order to minimize suffering for your dog.

The kidney related disorders in dogs take years to spot because the kidney has certain in built reserve tissues that get rid of the toxin automatically. Dachshund Illnesses And Cure Tips

You feel that you have been taking good care of your Dachshund since the day he entered your door. But despite your best efforts to ensure his health, sickness will always find its way to invade your dog’s life. Some of these illnesses are common and curable. But these common and curable illnesses can be the way to serious and dangerous disease if left untreated at the right time.

A Dachshund is characterized with long spinal column and short rib cage. That is the reason why they are more prone to health problems related to spine. They are more likely to suffer intervertebral disk disease, one of the most common canine back problems affecting Dachshund dogs. Intervertebral disk disease occurs when the jelly like in the inner layer of the disk protrudes through the fibrous outer layer into the vertebral canal and presses on the spinal cord.

This intervertebral disk disease comes in three types. Type 1, usually appears in dogs three to six years of age. In this type, the rupture in the vertebral canal may increase because the disks of dogs become more like cartilage than fibrous tissue. Type 11 is just a partial protrusion and appears in dogs six to ten years of age. Type 111 is usually rare but causes damage the most. In this type, the disc herniates severally and may actually enter the spinal cord and cause severe damage. This damage may be so severe and incurable and may require euthanasia.

A dachshund suffering from this disease may feel pain in the region of the neck and weakness or paralysis in the limbs. IVDD can be treated through anti inflammatory medication and in surgery in serious cases to relieve the spinal cord. Other treatments include hydrotherapy, massage and herbal homeopathic treatments.

Diabetes is another disease that may affect your Dachshund. Diabetes is common to dogs especially to obese ones. A dachshund with diabetes may want to drink more and urinate more. Other symptoms include weight loss, increased appetite, dehydration and cataract formation. Diabetes left untreated may result to ketotic and additional symptoms such as depression, weakness, vomiting and rapid breathing may be experienced.

Canine diabetes is treated through careful diet and insulin therapy, just like in humans. Foods rich in fiber and carbohydrates are recommended to dogs with diabetes.

Some Dachshunds are found out to have urolithiasis, a disease caused by excessive amount of crystals in the urinary tract. Symptoms of this disease include frequent urination, bloody and dribbling urine, weakness, depression, loss of appetite, vomiting and pain. Contact your veterinarian for recommendations on treatment when your dog has any of these symptoms.

Selective breeding plays an important role in prevention of these diseases. Dogs with any of these diseases should not be included in breeding to prevent dogs from acquiring disease.

Remedies For Motion Sickness in Dogs

Motion Sickness:-

Motion Sickness is not something that is only seen in animals. It is a common phenomenon observed even in human beings. You might have observed on your long distance travel in a bus, a flight or, even a train, you encounter a vomiting sensation. There are also instances when you have just come from a long journey and you still experience as if you are moving. At times you feel like vomiting and it seems as if the earth is revolving around you. These are all symptoms of this sickness.

Motion sickness in dogs:-

An otherwise relaxing and cool vacation drive could turn into a nightmare if your pet suffers from motion sickness, though it is not a common phenomenon. It is more often seen in dogs that are not used to travelling long distances, but canines that are in a habit of travelling are free from this disease.

Causes:-

It is caused by the stimulation of the vestibular apparatus that is located within the inner ear. This vestibular apparatus helps the dog process position and movements. A dog suffers from motion sickness when the signals that are sent to the ‘lateral-reticular-formation-vomiting-center’ by the ‘chemoreceptor-trigger-zone’ in the brain are more than the normal signals. This triggers the vomiting sensation which is one of the main symptoms of this disease in dogs.

Remedies to prevent the sickness:-

The most common symptoms of motion sickness in dogs is drooling (salivation) and vomiting. Pets would also suffer from severe diarrhea and would feel nauseated. There are other symptoms as well. Dogs would show an imbalance and would also show restlessness. The remedy for this sickness is a combination of proper administration and medication.

The best way to prevent this is by conditioning the dog to get used to frequent and long distance travels. You can start with short trips to your nearest grocery store or, to the local convenience store and gradually increase the distance of travel. During the course of travelling, make sure that the pet is allowed to see outside the vehicle and has enough room to move around in the vehicle. Also ensure that there is proper ventilation and that the temperature of the car is well maintained. Taking short breaks every 1-2 hours can also help reduce or, negate the effect of travel sickness in dogs.

Treatment:-

Dogs suffering from motion-sickness can be a traumatic experience to see. There is often a sense of panic that is developed in the owner of the pet. But the best way to treat such problems is to maintain calm. There are quite a few medications available even without prescription but I do not personally recommend them. The easiest way to cure, if the dog has not vomited is to put the pet to sleep for some time. Some doctors prescribe mild sedatives so that the pet sleeps. You may want to consult your vet before doing it.

Keep the dog close to you and pat him. Compel him to lie down and sleep and keep patting him. He would still show restlessness but there are some dogs that will sleep when you constantly do this. If the dog is vomiting, then you need to ensure that you give him enough water so that he doesn’t get dehydrated.

It is said that “nothing heals like love”. All that your pet requires during any illness is a bit of care and love. The response that your pet will show to medications would be nothing compared to how he responds to care and love. Show your dog that you care for him and he will be fine.
