Anyone have a shih tzu with Cushings Syndrome?

Is Cushings particular to the breed of dog?
My 12yr old dog has lethargy, increased skin pigmentation, weakness in the legs and weight gain.

Dogs of any breed can develop Cushing’s syndrome, but it is most common in poodles, dachshunds, miniature schnauzers, and German shepherds. Boxers and Boston terriers are prone to development of Cushing’s syndrome caused by pituitary tumors.

My lab developed Cushing’s 10 years ago. I am sorry to hear that your dog is sick. Just make sure you give him extra love. He or she is probably pretty confused right now.

Can anyone suggest high fat dog treats?

Our 12 year old coonhound was diagnosed with Cushings Syndrome and we’ve decided to move forward with Lysodren treatment.

Since Lysodren is a fat soluble medication, our dog needs to take the meds with something that is high in fat content in order for the medication to work.

Unfortunately, she’s a picky eater. We’ve tried EVERYTHING high fat we can think of: peanut butter, cheese, sausage, vegetable oil…and she refuses to eat it.

Are there any treats on the market that are high in fat?

Thanks in advance.
We tried hamburger, sausage, bacon, pepperoni…everything! Thank you though!!

I’d try raw hamburger.

Frankly – if necessary I would wrap the pill in a ball of hamburger and force feed it/drop it down the dogs throat… and then PRAISE like heck.
