I have a collie roughly ten years old with 85 pounds overweight has arthritus and only gets around.?
My shepherd Libby has never been able to exercise much me working and taking care of my wife who passed away recently and now that I am retired and have the time, asked if I wanted to hurt my dog trying to walk to exercise? His back legs seem to be quite bad as she can not go very far without stopping to establish. I give 10 mg of prednisone per day, which seems to help her some pain. Is it too late or what I can do to get your best foot forward and not be so lazy? My Libby is all I have left now and all aid would be much appreciated. Thanks …… Herbs
Getting the weight is very important because the extra weight is what makes it even more difficult to overcome, and highlighting organ function. Start with very short walks and work your way up to longer rides. Do not worry if you need a little break, just encourage her to get back up and keep walking. You may want to consider getting a few things to help her too. Talk to your veterinarian about using a product called Cosequin. This is a glucosamine and chondroitin supplement formulated specifically for your dog and even has the research to prove it works (the only glucosamine and chondroitin supplement on the market for animals that do). This will help repair joints and ease of movement in the time. In addition, the use of long-term steroid (Such as prednisone) can do a lot of damage and it will not help your dog lose weight. Steroids aid weight gain and increased appetite. Talk to your veterinarian about the use of a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as Deramaxx. These are designed for long-term use to relieve inflammation caused by the release prostiglandin in the body (which is what happens in the arthritic joints). You could also try supplementing your dog a diet of multiple vitamins and WellTabs Wellness / Old Mother Hubbard. Encourage the use of glucosamine, chondroitin, and Omega 3 & 6 fatty acids help in alleviating arthritis. Now, all this will help relieve pain with walking aids, but now let's talk about her weight. What kind of food do you, how often, how much? What is about? Food labels bags are normally active animals. Try to find a high quality food that is at the level of activity of your dog. "What I mean by this as it is 10 years old, a food senoir to use, but also one that is for weight management / maintanence. I personally love being, and suggest using the wording the elderly. If you do change foods like you are using may be large, be sure to slowly introduce and change over a period of 7-14 days until you are 100% new food. If you leave food out all day, meal to start feeding twice a day. Feed only half a portion in the morning, then the other half of the night. You may want to feed more of the half in the morning if you go to get their assets in the day, then a portion smaller at night. Leaving food is tempting to dogs and can increase weight gain because he eats constantly, without restrictions. So concerned are large, but try to use green beans, carrots and sliced apples instead of having it (as Milkbones – these are very fattening and not good for your dog). You can also Add a teaspoon green food for your dog as a good way to fill them without packing on pounds. As food not to feed your dog: nothing in the family onions, grapes, no raisins, no citrus, and no nighshade family. Taking care of your diet, helping Dietary arthritis, your dog is expected to be more active and you can get some of the weight. As always, consult your veterinarian when you see vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, increased pain, shortness of breath, blood or anytime. Most veterinarians would like to know if you are trying to lose weight so they can help you through it too. Discuss this when talking about products I mentioned above and as Cosequin Deramaxx. Taking your dog in every 2 weeks during a weight in a great way to encourage yourself and the dog – because you see the results, do not assume they are or not making any progress. I hope this is of some help. I am includeing some links to go ahead on the products I mentioned. EDIT: As data after reading a few other respected, aquatic therapy is a great idea and really can help relieve joint pain. There may be a physical therapist of the animals in your area that can help you if you want some instructions. Also do not use any human medication on your pet without permission and under the supervision of your veterinarian. Many drugs such as aspirin, acetominiphen, Naproxin sodium and ibprophen have side effects that can harm your dog. Although yes, aspirin is sometimes used in medicine veterinary medicine (as a cheap way to give relief, not for chronic use and consistently), NSAIDs, as I mentioned earlier are designed for use in animals, are safer, and have fewer side effects. Previcox not the best option for every dog. Talk to your veterinarian about the best way for your dog NSAIDs in particular (not including Dermaxx, Rimadyl and Metacam). EDIT2: I really wanted to include this link for you. It's my favorite site with information so big manageing joint disease.
