Why Is My Dog Not Eating

Why Is My Dog Not Eating
Why is our dog not eating breakfast?

Every morning we give my dog dry biscuit chum food , sometimes he eats it straight away sometimes he doesnt for example,

Last week he ate all his food every day as soon as it was given to him, but THIS week he only ate it completely on some days and ate some at lunch and didn’t eat as soon as it was given to him. weve tried changing flavours and brands but this seems to be the case with every brand of dry food

why might this be?
if we feed him ONE can of dog food in the evening is that enough for one day?

Probably because he isn’t very hungry. You can probably get away with feeding him once a day – in the evening. As dogs get older some of them only need to be fed once a day. My dog use to eat twice a day, AM and PM, but then one day he just didn’t bother eating the AM meal (like three days in a row), so I quit feeding him then. He does fine on once a day. You might want to try this for a week or so and see how he eats the one meal.

Dog Food Poisoning and The Health Issues It Can Cause

One of the most common dog illnesses is dog vomiting and diarrhea. These are both symptoms from one of the more well known and common illnesses that is food poisoning in your dog.

Dog food poisoning normally comes about due to dog that are let out to wonder or have easy access to bins and garbage areas where they can quite freely rummage around and eat whatever they feel smells nicer.

Dogs rely heavily on their smell to tell them what to eat and what not to eat, so to a dog, gone off or old food with plenty of germs and bacteria can become a very tempting option, not to mention the many foods that can be harmful to your dog because of the lack of digesting capability your dog has which makes your pet extremely sick in some cases without them fully knowing the consequences of what they are about to eat and digest.

This in turn makes the garbage area of your home or garden, or even places on the street a very dangerous place for your dog to be left alone and unsupervised. Although in most cases food poisoning in your dog is easily treated and has no long term harm for your dog. It can be a really unpleasant time for your dog where they will need more attention and be more time consuming than normal, not to mention the expense of a simple avoidable trip to the vets for the check-up.

Having said this there are ways to clear your dog of this condition to help them to a strong recovery, provided you know that it is food poisoning you are dealing with and it has been confirmed by a professional vet, the diagnosis will normally be to fee your dog only water for twenty four hours so your dogs body can be freed of the offending poisoning from the unwanted food, your dog will do this by either vomit or diarrhea.

If you do not take this action your dog’s body will continue to get rid of any food you feed your dog because the immune system thinks the food entering the body is causing the poisoning thus getting rid of it. This cycle will continue and your dog will be ill and unwell until everything has been emptied out of your dogs system and it can return back to normal again.

After this you should feed your dog on bland foods and gradually build up to tastier and stronger smelling foods until all is normal again.

Sick Dog Info

Sick Dog Info
My dog is sick, anyone out there have info?

Hi there,
My dog has complete liquid diarrhea, but he eats and drinks a bit and has the same amount of energy as normal. He did get into some trash, with a lot of old food in it(knocked over the closed trash bin), but that might not be it. He didn’t eat anything or drink anything at all yesterday, unless I used a syringe and put water/pedialite down his throat. He began drinking a bit today, and I’ve been feeding him bland things today, rice and beef, yogurt, cottage cheese. He eats that fine, but stays away from his food. I feed him Blue Buffalo puppy chow, and normally his feces is fine, but the past couple days, its completely liquid…no solids at all. So if anyone has any answers for this, let me know. I’m not sure if it is an emergency type thing, because he hasn’t been completely lethargic.

You really need to take your dog to the vet. That’s the only way you can get a proper diagnosis and treat it properly. You’re doing great with helping your dog eat and drink. My only concern is that the cheese or yogurt (dairy products) can be making it worse. Some dogs just don’t digest human food as well, especially pure breds.

I know plain pasta is considered bland and easy on the digestive system for humans with diarrhea. That might work, but for now, I’d suggest staying away from dairy.

I would take your dog to a vet asap. Always better to be safe than sorry. I hope your puppy gets better very soon <3

PS...STOP FEEDING YOUR DOG 'DOG FOOD'...just in case the food is tainted! Tell your vet what you're feeding it and find out if it's being recalled. There has been another contamination alert in pet foods again.

Dog Heart Murmur

Dog Heart Murmur

Canine Congestive Heart Failure and What to Do About It

While some of these symptoms can be linked to other health issues, and the symptoms are the same between benign heart murmurs and the more severe forms, you should consult a veterinarian any time you have a concern about your dog’s health. Some of these symptoms can be easily missed, including poor exercise ability and even a bluish tinge to the gums. If you have any suspicion that your dog may be suffering from issues relating to a heart murmur, canine heart disease or the development of congestive heart failure, contact your vet immediately for an official diagnosis.

In the event that your dog has a heart murmur, it indicates an abnormal amount of blood flow within the heart of your canine. This can be due to a change in your dog’s heart valves and their function or a number of other possible causes. There may be an abnormal communication better the left and the right side of your pup’s heart and this can lead to your dog having a heart murmur. There may be a variety of reasons for this. They may either be acquired or congenital. This usually means that the heart was affected after your pooch was born due to disease or age. There are two types of heart murmurs in dogs. The first is what is called a benign heart murmur and does not concern your dog’s health. On the other hand, it may be a serious heart murmur which may indicate congestive heart failure in dogs.

There are certain symptoms that indicate your dog may have serious health problems. The best way to identify the source and severity of a dog’s heart murmur is to have your dog thoroughly checked out by a veterinarian. However, additional testing may be necessary which may include a heart ultrasound, EKG, blood testing and chest x-rays. The ultrasound may be particularly beneficial because your veterinarian can measure the extent of your dog’s heart murmur. It will define whatever the cause of the underlying heart disease may be. It is vitally important to have the cause of your dog’s heart condition diagnosed because there are some cases where heart murmurs are treatable either by medication or surgery. Of course, you have to find out beforehand just how expensive various treatments may be so you won’t be surprised by an abnormally high vet bill. You may be surprised at the prices some vets may charge.

If your dog has a congenital heart murmur, surgery may be a viable solution to eliminate the problems it creates. On the other hand, specific types of medication may be necessary because non congenital heart murmurs are often an underlying symptom of congestive heart failure in dogs. You cannot be sure about which treatment is going to be the right path to proceed with until you have consulted the right veterinarian and received advice regarding the health of your dog. You should never leave symptoms like these to chance, because not every heart murmur is benign, and serious changes could be occurring in your dog’s heart.

It is very important that you share any questions or concerns with your vet especially when it comes to your pooch’s lifestyle and physical condition. If the diagnosis from your general veterinarian does not suit you, perhaps you should seek out a specialist for your dog. You could either go to an internist or a veterinary cardiologist. These vets have specialized training and they probably have a great deal of expertise in this field and other issues that you may have with your dog.
