Dog Symptoms Sickness
How can I make my dog feel better when she’s sick?

Other than medicines for dogs, does anyone know some home remedies or tricks to making your dog feel well? if it helpsto know, she’s having diahrea, she’s throwing up some, and she’s been tired all day. I’m not sure if I should take her to the vet or if these are normal symptoms for sickness in dogs.

•cooked white rice (no butter or flavorings)

•cottage cheese (no liquid)

•boiled chicken (no grease, no skin, no flavorings)

•boiled turkey (no grease, no skin, no flavorings)

•scrambled egg (no butter or oil)

•boiled egg (no butter or oil)

•boiled potato (no skin or flavorings)

•baked potato (no skin or flavorings)

Continue to feed several small servings of this bland diet for a couple days in gradually increasing amounts until a formed stool is passed. Then, start to wean your pet back to its regular food over the course of a week by gradually working in small amounts of their regular dry dog food.

Do not give your pet bones, snacks or table scraps, because they may irritate the intestinal tract during this time.

Dogs can also be given a dose of Pepto Bismol every 6 hours. (Dosage depends on your dog’s weight: 1 ml per lb.) Bonus, the Pepto Bismol also works to stop vomiting.

Are Cigarette Butts Toxic To Dogs? (Urgent)?

Recently, both Max and Roxy have been throwing up. With TWO trips to the vet each, the vet has been unable to detect what can be making them sick. The diet is the same, nothing new has been introduced to them, nothing has changed.

But now this morning, I walk outside in my back yard to pick up the doggy poo, and I find not one, not two, but three cigarette butts in my back yard, and another in Roxy’s mouth.

The cigarette butts all follow the perimeter of my new upstairs neighbor’s patio, and we know they smoke– you can make the connection on your own.

Can the ingestion of cigarette butts cause my dogs to be throwing up with no other symptoms of sickness?

Cigarette butts are loaded with nicotine – highly concentrated, because all the smoke has passed through the butt – A butt may contain as much as 25% of the nicotine that was in the entire cigarette before smoking. Concentrated nicotine is *very* lethal to humans, especially the nicotine sulfate form. In pets, the toxic threshold is about 5mg/pound, and LD50 is around 10mg/pound.

Signs begin as quickly as one hour post-ingestion. Symptoms include:

Tremors
Auditory and Visual Hallucinations
Excitement
Vomiting and Diarrhea
Twitching possibly progressing to Seizures
Racing heart rate but slow heart rate with small doses

High blood pressure but at higher doses there is a circulatory collapse
It is easy to confuse nicotine poisoning with other poisonings such as strychnine, chocolate, organophosphate insecticide, and certain molds. Hopefully, there will be cigarette materials in the vomit to give away the diagnosis.

Get your neighbors to clean up their act, before they kill your dogs – Point out to them that 1) they’re littering, for which they can be cited, and 2) they’re potentially liable for the vet bills. But be as nice as you can be, at the same time – you still have to live next to them.

Good luck!

What sickness does my cat have?

My cat has been acting very strange for the past week or two. She has always been very sweet, but we have two other cats and lately anytime any of the other two cats go near her she hisses at them and sometimes attacks them. We have a small dog who she is never mean to, she rubs against him and is sweet and loving, she is also still sweet and loving towards my Fiance and I. Its just the other two cats she is hissing at and being mean to. She has also lost a lot of weight, she eats minimally whereas she used to eat normally. We do not think its rabies because she isnt vicious, she just has a short temper and she isnt drooling or foaming at the mouth or any of the other symptoms I looked up. She started acting this way a little while after she started exploring outside (She used to stay indoors all the time) Any help or suggestions? Thank you!

Sounds like they’re having territorial issues?
