What Are The Symptoms Of Dogs In Labor What Are The Symptoms Of Dogs In Labor
Can a dog stop laboring if she does not like where she is or what room she was put in?

My neighbor and close friend’s dog is pregnant and she is close if not over due we can not remember when we caught her and the stray. She is so big and looks so uncomfortable and i look after her during the day while my friends are at work. I have never witnessed a dog giving birth before so I do not know what to expect. I have read through some of the other answers and she has shown a lot of those symptoms but no puppies yet. What are the biggest and most important ones I need to look for??? Also she is in the office with her fav. blanket but does not seem to like it there. But this is the safest place for her and for us to help her if needed because we can reach her and she won’t get stuck in there. If she is truely that unhappy in the office can she stop laboring????
Also she has had 2 other litters before but my friend says that this one is unlike the other pregnancies.

i think they can hold it off when they are uncomfortable. she cant be in a stressful envirnment. when my cat had kittens, i let her go wherever she wanted and where she felt most comfortable. but yes it can be dangerous to let her go whereever, because she could have the pups in a small dangerous area. after about an hour of them being born (so mom can lick them and clean them up), if you can, make a nesting area for her, a private area, put blankets down and keep them (pups) in a small area, since they can move around and might wander away (which is unlikely). just keep her in an area that you can keep an eye on her. she wants her privacy as well!! she wont like people comming in and bothering her just to see the pups. has she ever had pups before?? they have the motherly instinct and know what to do. just keep a good eye on the pups when they are out. try not to be nervous! and if you KNOW that she should be having pups any minute, and hasnt had them… than contact the vet!! they can help you out!! good luck! hope all goes well. keep me updated

add: if it is unlike the other pregnancys, and she looks like shes in distress, then probably contact the vet. some dogs have complications with their pregnancys, even if they have had them before, there may be something wrong, you should probably call the vet NOW then! tell them what is happening, and tell them u need to get the dog in ASAP!

another add: dont use a heating pad, the pups will have eachother and the mother to keep warm, plus keep them in a warm place! dont use the dental floss. like i said, the mother knows what she is doing, she knows what to do!!
